Very important point of Hindu religious practices it is said Lord Vishnu, the supreme Hindu God appeared here in the incarnation of Kurma Avatar. Chand Rulers also ruled this region and made Champawat of their capital, during their regime they constructed many temples. Temple made by them the Baleshwar Temple, Nagnath Temple, and Kanteshwar Temple are still some of the major tourist places in Champawat town. Stationed at an altitude of 1600 meters this place also very rich in flora and fauna. Mesmerising mountain view, 65 percent of the entire district is covered in rich flora. Teak, Sagoon, Jamun, Babul are some of the trees that cover the forest area. Famous Sikh religious place Reetha Sahib also known as Meetha Reetha Sahib is located in a tiny hamlet called Dyuri in Champawat district.

By air: The nearest airport to Champawat is Pantnagar Airport situated 168 kms away. Taxis are available from Pantnagar Airport to Champawat.

By train: The nearest railhead to Champawat is Tanakpur situated at a distance of 60 kms from Champawat. Kathgodam is also alternative railway station approx. 130 Kms.  Commercial taxis and private cars are available for your onward journey from there.

By road: If you coming from Delhi an overnight bus from Anand Vihar Inter State Bus Terminal will drop you at Almora. Its approx. 425 Kms far from Delhi.
