ROOPKUND

Situated at 15750 feet from sea level in the Shivalik Himalayan range, Roopkund Lake is home to the scattered skeletal remains of several hundred individuals mostly believed of ancient sages. Roopkund offers life time moments for trekers Deep virgin forests, gurgling brooks, breath-taking campsites, miles of undulating meadows, snow and ice and the taste of a great adventure as you climb from 8,000 ft to 16,000 ft in six days. This treak trail is bundle of picturesque elements, you start from soothing lush meadows to the spread out Alpine Trees and finally, the captivating snow. The Lake is flanked by a rock face, named Junargali to the North and a peak named Chandaniakot to the East forming a collective vision which gives trekers wheezing moments. The Trek begins at a base camp and leads on to, GhairoliPatal and BedniBugyal, where a long trail of almost four hours takes you to PatarNachauni. Finally, after a steep ascent to Kalu Vinayak, you reach Roopkund, through Bhagwabasa. The two gigantic alpine meadows of Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal gives you feel of walking over desktop’s windows wallpaper.

How to reach

By air: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport around 200 Kms to Valley of Flowers but the roads are only connected up to Debal from where you have to commence trek of Roopkund.

By train: The nearest railway station 170 Kms is Rishikesh but the roads are only connected upto Debal from where you have to commence trek of Roopkund. Rishikesh is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India.

By road: Debal is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of Uttarakhand state.

Best time to visit: April, May and June.
